HACRO have been looking for Employers who specialise in the recruitment of marginalised groups within society. Timpson’s are one of the few Employers who do this, amongst supporting numerous other socially minded projects.

Below is the great success story of Sarah Barker.

After serving more than 2 years for a violent assault, Barker had been turned down for 70 jobs. But Timpson offered her a second chance, training her to work in one of their photo-processing shops on day release from prison.

“If I had not got the job at Timpson I dread to think what would have happened, the support never stops” says the former prisoner

Currently, there are approximately 10 million people in the UK with a criminal conviction. At Timpson we believe it is madness to throw such a large section of society on the employment scrapheap. Often, other employers don’t realise they can be missing out on some very talented, hardworking individuals.

We believe that by offering people an alternative to crime, and enabling them to break the offending cycle, we can make a real difference in society.

Statistics prove that employment can be a significant factor in reducing re-offending, which is good news for all of us.
