Small Grants Programme

For many years HACRO has been providing small grants (up to £100) to ex-offenders to enable them to buy basic essentials such as clothing, ID documents and phones. Our grant fund is under pressure more than ever. Small Grants make a real difference to ex-offenders and provide them with critical support to start them on their journey of rehabilitation.

What are small grants?

Requests for small grants are often made by Probation, the Police or our own Mentors. They often include work-related grants or requests to help with the basics of life. We recently helped with items such as lunches and travel fares for a Participant transitioning into work before the first pay packet was received; we also provided access for a homeless man to a gym to enable him to wash; a we have provided winter clothing and clothing for work. Grants have also been used to purchase ID documents, such as a passport, to enable the individual to access benefits or employment.

Do small grants make a difference?

One of our HACRO Achievement Awards winners received a small grant for a uniform, also received training and went on to set up her own mobile sandwich business. A real success story from a 25-year offending history, drug addiction, and a 45 month custodial sentence.

How can I help?

Please support our Small Grants Request fund.  We want to continue to be able to contribute to those that need a helping hand and we are dependent on donations for this. If you would like to donate, we would be massively grateful. Please email office@hacro.org.uk for more information or to make a donation. Such donations can be made under Gift Aid.
